DHBP (Chemical Name: 2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane, CAS-No 78-63-7), commonly known as 101, is a chemical compound with significant industrial relevance. As of 2023, China's estimated production capacity for DHBP stands at approximately 2,000 tons. Presently, there are only two compliant and qualified manufacturers of DHBP in China: Nouryon Chemicals (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu QiangSheng Functional Chemicals Co., Ltd. The production capacity of DHBP is largely influenced by a raw material supplied by Japan's Sumitomo Chemical. In 2020, the market price of DHBP in China surged to 1,500 RMB per kilogram due to the skyrocketing demand for melt-blown fabric degradation in face masks.

Here are some key points regarding DHBP:

Flash Point and SADT: DHBP has a flash point of 65°C and a Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) of 80°C, making it one of the safer organic peroxides. Therefore, temperature-controlled transportation is generally not required during the summer.

Purity and Standards: The current manufacturing process allows DHBP to be produced with nearly 100% purity. The industry group standard in China is 94%. Depending on various requirements, it can be formulated into different concentrations and forms, such as 50% powder, 20% granules, and 45% paste.

Typically Uses a Red Indicator: A red indicator is used for its high visibility and contrast, allowing operators to easily track the distribution of MEKP and enhance operational safety.

Applications: DHBP is used as a free radical donor for cross-linking high polymers (such as silicone rubber, EPDM, polyethylene, etc.) at temperatures of≥170°C, with usage levels ranging from 0.5% to 3% depending on the polymer. It is also used for polypropylene degradation at temperatures of 200-220°C, with usage levels ranging from 0.01% to 0.1%.

Packaging: DHBP is typically packaged in 20 kg PE drums and 25 kg PE drums.

Storage Conditions: The standard storage conditions for DHBP are between 10°C and 40°C in a cool, ventilated place. Prolonged storage may result in yellowing.
