Reasons for Wind Power Adopting Pultrusion Process
 Sep 26, 2023|View:364

Evergreen Chemicals supplies the materials required for the extrusion process and works with global customers to improve the quality of wind power products.Reasons for the use of extrusion technology in offshore and onshore wind power:

1. The pultrusion process ensures high fault tolerance of the product

Previously, whether using injection molding or pre impregnation for production, if there were defects in the production process, the impact on the main beam would be fatal. For example, if the main beam is 80 meters long and 60 centimeters wide, and there are defects in any area, this main beam poses a safety hazard.

However, if there are problems or defects on a certain extruded plate during the production process when using extruded plates to produce the main beam, the extruded plate can be scrapped and replaced with a new one. This results in even if the main beam of the blade encounters problems during the assembly process, as long as the problematic extrusion plate is replaced, it will not affect other extrusion plates. The cost of scrapping a pultruded plate is much lower than scrapping the entire main beam.

2. The pultrusion process makes the structure of the main beam stronger

Due to the fiber content of the pultrusion process, the amount of yarn and resin used can be controlled and adjusted, and the yarn content can reach 70% (volume content), but the highest yarn content for vacuum injection can only reach 60%. The higher the fiber content, the better the mechanical properties or load-bearing state of the main beam.

At present, the length of the extrusion plates used in onshore wind power is mostly between 80 meters and 97 meters, such as 85 meters, 89 meters, and 90 meters for Shanghai Electric; Dongfang Electric 90 meters and 91 meters; The main blade shape of Jinfeng and Zhongke Yuneng is 93 meters; Yunda has a length of 92 meters and 97 meters.

In blades ranging from 80 meters to over 90 meters, except for the need to use vacuum injection or pre impregnation materials for production due to contract signing, or due to some economic reasons, 98% of the blades use extrusion technology. Both the 99 meter blades of offshore wind power and the 123 meter blades of Jinfeng use extrusion technology. The blades have carbon plates and fiberglass plates, and there are also certain differences depending on the blade shape.
