Advancement of New Energy in Automobiles Promotes the Development of Power Battery Industry

In China's transportation sector, carbon emissions account for approximately 10% of the total, with automobiles contributing to 7.5%. The electrification of automobiles is a pivotal direction for the transformation and green development of the automotive industry, playing a crucial role in achieving the "dual-carbon" goals.

The core component of new energy vehicles is the power battery. In recent years, the surge in sales of new energy vehicles has injected momentum into the development of the power battery industry. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) has become a mainstream technology for lithium batteries, gaining increasing favor from automotive manufacturers for its cost-effectiveness. In 2022, LFP surpassed ternary batteries, reaching a market share of 55.6%. Driven by this demand, the production capacity for LFP saw rapid growth, with both quantity and price on the rise until 2022.

Bangpu Integrated Battery Materials Industrial Park

Since October 2021, CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited) announced an investment in building the Bangpu Integrated Battery Materials Industrial Park in Yichang, Hubei Province, through its subsidiary Guangdong Bangpu. The project includes Bangpu Era, Bangpu Recycling, and Bangpu Yihua, with a total investment of CNY 32 billion. It integrates key elements such as "phosphorus mining-raw materials-precurser-positive electrode materials-battery recycling," establishing a complete life cycle for batteries. Once fully completed, the industrial park will be capable of providing positive electrode materials for batteries in 4 million new energy vehicles.

In December 2021, the Bangpu Recycling project commenced. It focuses on the recycling line for used lithium iron phosphate batteries, a crucial component of battery recycling. In the production process, ensuring the corrosion-resistant engineering of segments like acid storage, alkali storage, and the absorption and washing of corrosive wastewater and gases is vital for the smooth operation of the project.

Comprehensive Support from AOC Resin Lautex (Atlac 590z and Atlac 430)

In the project's early stages, the contractor for the corrosion-resistant engineering was uncertain about resin selection for complex corrosion conditions in lithium battery recycling. As an industry leader in high-quality corrosion-resistant resins, AOC frp Resin Lautex actively participated in the selection of corrosion-resistant engineering solutions for multiple lithium battery projects. The technical team, possessing profound technical expertise, overcame challenges posed by pandemic restrictions, actively communicated with the project owner and design unit, and recommended optimal corrosion-resistant resin options and manufacturing solutions for the Bangpu Recycling project. The inner lining layer adopted high-performance vinyl ester resin Atlac 590z and Atlac 430, and the structural layer used the classic orthophthalic resin Palatal P65-901. To enhance aging resistance and aesthetics, some tanks were coated with AOCfrp Resin Lautex's high-quality isophthalic neopentyl glycol gelcoat. This not only ensured product quality but also maximized cost savings for Bangpu.

During the project construction process, AOC frp Resin Lautex's business and technical teams maintained close communication with the construction units (Zhongfu Lianzhong, Jizhou Zhongyi, and Shengli Xinda) specializing in glass fiber reinforced(frp) plastic. They prioritized providing technical, production, and logistics support for the project, ensuring its smooth progress.

In September 2022, the first phase of the Bangpu Integrated Project—Bangpu Recycling—successfully commenced trial production. AOC Resin Lautex's business team conducted a follow-up visit to the owner, and the owner expressed satisfaction with the excellent quality of the glass fiber reinforced plastic products in the first phase. They hoped that AOC Resin Lautex would continue to provide strong technical support and services for the subsequent second and third phases of the project.
